LEVEL BEST

United States of America

Five top veteran bluegrass musicians find that their taste and talent fit so well together, that they want to share that excitement with bluegrass fans everywhere. That’s the story of Level Best.

With exciting solo work on fiddle, dobro, mandolin and banjo, Level Best has that soulful polish, earned with years of playing bluegrass and country music.

But for Level Best, it’s all about the singing. Four members of the band love to sing, and all are at home singing lead or harmony. That makes a dozen different trio combinations, and a unique range of vocal colors.

With a unique repertoire of originals and bluegrass and country gems, Level Best is primed to make its mark in Trafaria.

Lluís Gómez Bluegrass Quartet

Spain/France/Czechia

An international band led by Spanish banjo player Lluís Gómez who is joined by Ondra Kozák from the Czech Republic, Raphaël Maillet from France, and Maribel Rivero from Spain.

The four members, multi-instrumentalists and singers, are well-known on the European Bluegrass scene. Within this collaboration, they play straight and progressive Bluegrass with added spices from their respective countries.

You will listen to songs in Spanish, Catalan, French, Czech, and English, and original compositions as well.

Lluís Gómez – five-string banjo
Ondra Kozák – guitar, fiddle and lead vocals
Maribel Rivero – double bass and lead vocals
Raphaël Maillet – fiddle and lead vocals

Boom Ditty

França

Formed in 2012 in the Southwest of France, Boom Ditty is now firmly part of the French Bluegrass scène. Experienced with more than 300 gigs, the band have performed at major European bluegrass festivals, including the European World of Bluegrass (Netherlands) and the La Roche Bluegrass Festival (France).

It’s a long way for a band today to build self-identity. Boom Ditty have outrun this challenge with success over the years and have managed to create a solid consistency between their visual and musical act. With an admirable sound, they propel the audience further into the unique Boom Ditty-verse and more vastly into Bluegrass music.

Blue Weed

Italy

Blue Weed is an ensemble of Italian musicians inspired by traditional and contemporary bluegrass music. Raised at the court of the two historic Italian bluegrass bands — Bluegrass Stuff and Red Wine — in 2022 they decided to start a new one, capable of expressing their own stylistic declination of the genre.

Blue Weed’s repertoire proposes a wide range of sounds and styles of bluegrass music from its origins to the present day.

RAIN OF ANIMALS

Escócia/Austrália

Rain Of Animals is the euphonious collaboration between Pepita Emmerichs (Oh Pep!) and Theodore Barnard (Wire & Wool) and their love of all things mandolin, fiddle, guitar, harmony vocals, bluegrass, oldtime, swing, tunes and songs.

Spanning soulful originals to arrangements of classics and gems of rarities you wish you had discovered earlier, their sound is both new and old, unique in its instrumental wizardry and musical integrity all at once.

Fado N' Grass

Portugal

Fado N’ Grass, the name found for the fusion of the musical genres Bluegrass and Fado. In the diversity of influences such as Fado, Folklore, Blues, Jazz, Polka, Waltz, among others, this musical expression emerges as the result of the desire to disseminate Bluegrass music and Portuguese music.

For the third edition of “Trafaria Bluegrass”, we have prepared two different concerts. A fusion one where Fados will be interpreted with the sound and rhythms of Bluegrass music, and another where the traditional Gospel music of Bluegrass rhythms will be featured.

SEAHORSE SCULPTURE | COMMUNITY BUILDING

As part of the Trafaria Bluegrass Festival, we will have the activity “Seahorse Sculpture | Community Building,” focused on Environmental Education in the Community. This event highlights the importance of involving the local community in education for sustainable development and ocean protection.

We invite all festival participants, as well as the local Trafaria community, to join us in creating a sculpture made from waste collected from our beaches. We have chosen the Seahorse as a symbol of delicacy, an indicator of the health of marine ecosystems. The presence of seahorses in the coastal waters of Trafaria reflects the region’s marine biodiversity. Unfortunately, seahorses are threatened by pollution and the destruction of their natural habitats. This activity aims to raise awareness about the need to protect marine environments and their surroundings.

This activity seeks to develop creativity, teamwork, and ocean literacy among participants. Brigada do Mar is a Portuguese NGDO dedicated to cleaning the coastline. Since 2008, it has collected tons of waste with the help of volunteers, focusing on educating about ocean health and marine environment preservation.

This sculpture is part of Brigada do Mar’s “OCEANIZAR – Educate for the Future of the Oceans” project and is supported by the Almada City Council and European projects BGreen and Zero Plastic 4 All, co-funded by the Erasmus+ program.

Join us to turn waste into art and learn more about the importance of protecting our oceans and its inhabitants, like seahorses!

Location: Riverside Front
Date and Time: September 14, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM
